Big Bad Beats - by Jungle Jim

Heyo back again with more local beats that have taken my fancy over the last few days. This first one is reaching a little further than usual and in particular is one that will be getting a workout on my speakers. It's a bootleg of Lil John's 'Outta Your Mind' by WellSaid & Rubberteeth. These Adelaide producers have been releasing some funky tunes of late and this one has a funky style to it but its also hits so hard. Big big tune and I will be keeping my eyes on both these producers for more banging beats.

Check out Well Said's soundcloud here.

Check out Rubberteeths soundcloud here.

Lil John - Outta Your Mind (WellSaid & Rubberteeth bootleg)

This next one is from Reece Low, hailing from sunny Frankston in Melbourne. This bootleg of his is free to download from his soundcloud page. Reece seems to be able to put out hit after hit and this one is no different. Capturing that melbourne sound this tune is a great club banger and is one that will no doubt be heard right around melbourne in the coming months. Reece is becoming perhaps the leader in melbourne music and has been playing headlining gigs every week. At only 21 his, star is on the rise!

Classy Beats from the Melbourne Streets. By Jungle Jim

First up today is a tune from Will Sparks. Satoshi Tomiie -The Darkness (Will Sparks Remix) is up there as my favourite tune atm, can't get enough of this one. Such a good vibe, combining my favourite elements of that melbourne sound, a tough off beat bass and some very classy trumpet. The drop on 1.30 brings a smile to my face and makes me wish it wasn't just a sample. Boss of a tune.

Satoshi Tomiie -The Darkness (Will Sparks Remix)

I will also share with you a very classy set released under a month ago by one of our own GBI DJ's, Horse. An underrated talent, the man is in it for the music and loves his beats, which shines through in his music. That coupled with a couple of my tunes and how could you go wrong!

Horse - Horse Housing

This one's a little older than I usually post having been released 2 months ago. While that may not seem like a long amount of time, these days, especially in electronic music, an artist is expected to release at least a song a month. High demands! The tune is War Horn by Trumpdisco. This is a beast of a tune. It hits so hard, the war horn sound before the drop is epic as, it makes me proud that these guys are from Melbourne. Such creative genious mixed with hard hitting beats is an absolute winner in my eyes. Feast on this !

Melbournes Best, Youngest and Most Under-rated. by Jungle Jim

Crankin it up again! As ive had my ear to the ground for a few months ive got some bangers to present to you from out best, youngest and most under-rated melbourne producers.

First up is a song by one of the most talented up-and-comers in Melbourne Chris Bullen. At 17 years of age what blows my mind is not only the listenability of his songs but the production skill that goes into them.

"Choon'd (Original Mix)" is a Melbourne House song of the highest quality. The drop on 18 seconds typifies that tough melbourne sound I have come to love. Countless doubters have thought melbourne house was a fad and that would be gone in a year, but it is still here stonger than ever. Eat your words! The kids love it and are making it as good as the pros. I will also chuck up his latest tune, a bootleg of Rihanna's 'Where Have You Been,' released a day ago. While i dont dig the choice of orig very much, the drop kicks ass and is packed with energy. It's also a free download from his soundcloud page.

Chris Bullen - Choon'd (Original Mix) - Extended Sample

Rihanna - Where Have You Been (Chris Bullen Bootleg/Remix)

Next one up is a banger by Reece Low. Reece has 49 tunes and counting up on his soundcloud account, smashing out a tune every couple of days recently. Check out his soundcloud here. The one im chucking up is a Michael White & Demary Feat Odille remix that has a really funky, heavy hitting drop. It has an element of Mike Metro is the main synth, that out of tune, high pitched sound. Anywho, you can pick it up on beatport through Elektroshok records. Enjoy!

L-Vis 2012 - MasterSys

Having just released a new EP titled Club Constructions Volume 1 on the Night Slugs label, L-Vis 1990 has become a firm favourite of mine as of late, this is a man who dives right into a genre and surfaces with pearls. Brining back the Old-School sounds is the mans game right here, from genres such as Techno, House and UK Garage he manages to recapture elements that I wished alot more artists were doing these days.

After a string of solid EP releases on labels such as Sound Pellegrino, Mad Decent and Night Slugs, and the funk-filled 80's-esque album Neon Dreams, L-Vis 1990 is just oozing creativty and productiveness. A man who's got alot of things going for him, and could end up being a big name in the years to come.

His latest release, Club Constuctions Volume 1 is packed with 5 Hard House-stomping tracks that's been described as " modern-day ghetto Hard House ", and it really does sound like it with this release. Hard Drive is a track that'll get peoples heads bopping with its solid structre and clever use of samples to pick it up, whilst Video Drone is fierce and will make you want to stomp the floorboards beneath you. I reccomend listening to the whole EP, whilst there's alot of releases that'll have a good track or two, this EP doesn't follow suit and contains very solid tracks to get you dancing.

Club Constuctions Volume 1 is out now on iTunes and Beatport.

If Fake blood was too Level Up, how pro could one be? - Horse

Theo Keating is such a talent in the music world, being electronic producers Fake Blood and DJ Touché, being part of duo The Black Ghosts, and having a successful hip hop career in the 90s with The Wise Guys...really no need to level up yet Fake bloods newest remix is again of such a high standard. Fake Blood follows a very distinctive sound, making his tracks easily recognisable but never stale. His remix with Level up becomes rather dark compared too the introducing melody but the element of surprise on his drops is what makes him a consistent dance floor people mover.

Finish mainman Sharkslayer is a name that when I see, I must hear. Having worked with labels like Top Billin', Trouble & Bass, Dim Mak, Southern Fried and Lektroluv to name a few, he has certainly been around in the industry. Sharkslayers tracks often sound familiar in my opinion, which is more of a credit to his production value rather than being a swipe at his creativity. He has produced some great party tracks ,such as his mix of Boom Riddim, which made him a solid act to support Mightyfools when they toured Melbourne 2010. The Trumpet is a really boppy, feel good track driven by an underlying bass, making for definite funsies.

Piano Bug is a song that really appealed to me because of its flow. The track builds from a simple piano melody getting ever so slightly distorted until some high end frequency pops in over the top. Throughout this process, the track never loses its original beat and mishes really well up to the 4.27 minute mark. His remix of Drop The Limes Shake Baby Shake was a good spin on the orginal, also worth a look.

Juice Juice Juice - Jungle Jim

My fellow GBI DJ's have been indisposed of late, so i will keep the blogging flowing!
Streching out for the first time to America, but still pursuing my never ending search for unkown talent, I came across a song by DJ Abap called 'Drop The Bass Like This.' It has a flavour that isn't unlike alot of the stuff coming out from the local melbourne artists like Reece Low, JDG and Kalus. Driving basslines coupled with an Dutch style synth line with plenty of reverb that is packed full of energy and would blasted out of plenty of club speakers in America. I will be keeping my eye out for more tunes by DJ Abap.

Check out his soundcloud profile, here.

DJ Abap - Drop The Bass Like This (Original Mix)

These next two songs are by a colleague of mine at JMC Academy, Karate Surfing. Karate Surfing has to be the most underrated, undiscovered talent I have ever come across. The two songs, 'Holiday' and 'Mango Juice' have a style that lends itself to his upbringing in Broome, WA. Summer flavours give them a happy, funky vibe and in each of the songs you can really hear the years of production skills and time that has gone into them. Mango Juice in particular is a favourite of mine. I love the vocals that go along with it, which are also done by Karate Surfing himself. The elements work perfectly together, complementing eachother, and while there is alot of detail in the song, no part seems out of place or overcomplicated. Love them both! Here they are :)

Out Of Bounds - Jungle Jim

Today I will bring you a few tunes that come further than my usual reach of Melbourne. These tunes are coming from the UK from a man under the name of 'The Puppet On Crack.' I posted one of his tracks in an earlier blog called 'The Puppet Theme.' To be honest there hasn't been one of his tunes that I've been 'Yeah thats good but his others are better'. Each one is unique in it's own way and has been put together with the utmost skill and care. This is all the more impressive because he has pumped out 9 tunes in the last 2 months. Woah! All of the sickest quality and vibe and if i could post everyone i would. Maybe I will in later blogs! Another thing that appeals to me about his music is just how underated he is, he has 529 followers on soundcloud, which should blody well have a few more zeros on the end.

First up is probly my favourite because of how creative this piece of music is. Remixing sounds from the video game Pacman to make something that doesn't just sound cool, but is a really banging bouncy track. Check it out.

The Puppet on Crack - PacMan (Original Mix)

This next one absoultely blew me away because it was the first demonstration of how diverse The Puppet on Crack's music is. Melodic chords build up amazingly into the most dick kicking acid drop that became an instant favourite of mine.

The Puppet on Crack - The Crack Attack (Original Mix)

The last song I will post of his before i blow my load his a tune called Suburb Beat - Happy Feet (The Puppet on Crack Remix). A cheeky tune that was only released 3 days ago and one that again illustrates the talent of the man. One other thing he does that caught my attention was that in every drop he will change the melody, or the rhythm, something that will keep the song fresh and listenable. Amazingly well demonstrated in the 2nd drop of this tune at 2.44.

Have you got the Skrillex and Nero bootleg of Bass Cannon featuring the now sadly deceased Whitney Houston? - Horse

Do you want it? ^^ eat a bag of dicks. I start with some quotes from 'Filthy Ken', a prime player in a great couple of conversation samples from High Rankins new track Fuck you Virtual DJ. This song is a shout-out to punk DJs not respecting the music and other artists out there. The dubstep side of the track is well high pitched whereas I generally prefer my womp deep and bassy, but still definitely a cool track and a free download.

East side banter is the latest track from Aussie act Nadisko. Really dug the quirky vibe of this track and being free to download makes it all the better. Its really good to hear home grown quality techno coming from the likes of Nadisko as well as Jensen Interceptor and mysterious duo Australia made up of Gus Da Hoodrat and Lightyear who teamed up with Twin Turbo to release a great self titled EP late 2011.

Also just found this deep, dark and delicious new remix from Jensen Interceptor posted just today from Motorik Records. This fresh record label are throwing monthly free parties such as Lightyears Moderation EP launch, being held in Sydney and they look truly awesome, would love to attend one as who doesn't love a free techno orgy with some elite home-grown acts.

Tai's most recent release is a remix of Steve Aoki, Kid Cudi and Travis Barker. Egotistically named Cudi the Kid Tai jumps on board the growl house genre which I must say I am a fan of. He went a similar way with his Iconic remix for Moonbootica which delivers as well, but we've come to expect nothing but quality from Tai. Seeing him at Roxanne last year was a bit disappointing with the turnout but to his credit still went off and delivered the mad notes.

Must now go and get my drink on, peace.

It's that Simian, that Mobile Disco - MasterSys

After a string of EP releases and a compilation album throughout 2010-11, It's been a while since the British Lads Simian Mobile Disco have released material for a full fledged album. But the situation is non existent now as Simian has announced their new album, titled Unpatterns to be released on May 14th. Recently they've released their first track on the album titled Seraphim, a deep and chilled out Electronic track which is out now along with an extended version and another track titled Put your Hands Together.

Simian's become a firm favourite of mine over the years, after seeing them for the first time at Big Day Out in 09 I was hooked on their work, the Attack Decay Sustain Release album oozed variety from tracks such as Hustler, Tits & Acid and one of my all time favourites Wooden. Their willingness to mix it up with each release is just refreshing, I'd go as far to say they're the prodical sons of The Chemical Brothers, they're that good.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other new releases that have hit, Erol Alkan and Boys Noize have paired up once again releasing their EP titled Roland Rat/Brainstorm which is out now. I just find every time they're paired they've puked out gold, from bangers such as Lemonade, Death Suite and Waves and they've done it again with this recent release. Brainstorm oozes craziness and Roland Rat returns familiar sounds that still are surprisingly refreshing today.

Pardon this poorly written post, I'm in dire need of a good sleeping pattern. Take care for now - MasterSys.

Congorockers in the house tonight! - Horse

Arghh that title makes me feel a little sick, but the new track from Congorock Agarta is a hard-ass banger sure to knock your socks off (far from anything affiliated with LMFAO). It seems to me that Congorock struggled to find his sound after the amazing 2010 track Babylon but in recent months has come out with heavy tunes in Sirius, Ivory and now Agarta. Agarta dominates the low end frequencies with a raw and vibratory bassline and a forever climbing melody. Check out this Italian gun as part of Creamfield festivities hitting Melbourne April 28th.

GBI would also like your help with a remix comp as part of Creamfields. If a moment or 2 can be spared all you have to do it is follow this link https://www.facebook.com/totemtrance/?sk=app_404261502924094, like their page and Vote for the GBI DJ Remix

Thunderbird Juicebox releases this free download condimentally named Peanut Butta 2012. Heard this tune in Drop the Limes latest set and with Scarlet Fevers acapella and a driving Baltimore influenced heavy sound delivers the goods. The track mentions alot of "riding" and 'booty shaking so get up on it and bang!".

The next track I wanted to have a gander at is a Mad World remix by Manic Focus, certainly slowing things down a bit from the above posts. Now before we start reminiscing on how good a movie Donnie Darko was, the flow to this track is what makes it a winner. Capitalizing on a funkstep and chillwave sub-genres while still letting the original and sincere lyrics reign through. Its also got a free download exclusive to ThisSongisSick.com or via their soundcloud.

CREEP! enjoy this guy staring at you while you sleep :) until next time xo

Made In Melbourne - Jungle Jim

Hello

Heres a few photos from the event "Made In Melbourne (23rd March)" held every few months at Billboards, packed with the best talent that melbourne has to offer. Inc. Heath Renata, Mike Metro, Chardy, Orkestrated, Stevie Mink, Nick Coleman, T-Rek, Dean Del, Samual James and + more.

MADE IN MELBOURNE Fb Page

First up is a couple of tunes from 17 year old Producer/ DJ Tom Clayton. Such Melbourne talent is there to find, you just have to know where to look. While he may have 63 followers on his soundcloud now, guaranteed that will rise fast as soon as he hits the club scene.

Calvin Harris - Bounce (Tom Clayton Dutch Bootleg) [SAMPLE TRIAL]

Katy Perry - Peakock (Tom Clayton Bootleg) sample

Stretching out to Sydney for this one by an artist called "Narrator." "Krokodil" has deep melodies with a really good Dutch style synth line on the drop. The song is very well put together and production wise, is of the highest quality, everything gelling perfectly together. Narrator is a talent on the up!

DJ's gotta eat too... + NWO@3D NEXT WEEK FRIDAY - Esbii

Does this look like a DJ does to you? . From just a glance, obviously not, but really, this a DJ at work right now. Not behind decks fist pumping to his shit, not partying it up with a shit ton of beers and bitches, not even in front of a disco lit crowd that just are infatuated with him, hell he's not even wearing headphones! but in actual fact, this is JungleJim doing DJ things. We're supplying a house party with their fun/tunes tomorrow and since they have requested r'n'b and hip hop (genres completely out of any in GBI's way), it's time for homework to be done.

(btw readers, all that stuff I said that Jimmy isn't doing right now, yeah we do all of that all the time )

Activator featuring Reinweiss - Rombee

This track has blown my mind as the perfect way to describe it is reverse bass house. A lot of reverse sounds I've heard have always remained in the hardstyle genre (and as I have mentioned previously reverse bass hardstyle being close to my heart) and I was pretty amazed to hear something made that was a lot more closer to house using a reversed bassline. Long time hardstytle producer Activator has indeed made something fresh and unique!

Also, just would like to take a moment of your time to spread the word of this sick new event, New World Order @ 3D, next Friday (Good Friday). Main basis of the event is the new fresh stuff that's come out lately rather than the classics and I'm glad to see that that the love of my life, Josh Lang, will be playing and most certainly will go off!

Hope you all have a mad weekend!

SCNTST's from Mumbai - MasterSys

Mumbai Science, the duo that I will never tire from have released their final EP that is apart of the "Unified Theory" Trilogy, and I have to say this is the best release to come out of the monthly chapters that began on the faithful day of January 9th.

Part 3 is a burst of love from a heavy orgy that involved Techno and House associates banging eachothers brains out, Part 3 decides to go a bit more raw and darker then the previous two, with that special touch Mumbai Science has been known for, a feeling of atmosphere with their use of echoey samples and a solid and energetic kick that blends into whatever their imagination is pumping out.

Chemistry happens to be a personal favourite of mine from this release, a track full of lazer-beam like sounds that shouts craziness but manages to retain a solid Techno vibe throughout the track, accompanied by a slick bass guitar strum.

To celebrate the final release, Lektroluv have decided to also release a picture vinyl version featuring tracks from the Trilogy. I have to shine light on this badboy, the artwork on this is just so well done, an awesome touch to some stellar releases.

Unified Theory Part 3 is out now on Beatport and iTunes.

That's all I have time for now, but in order to save this post from such a gimpy pun in the title, I'll leave you now with some of my personal favourite SCNTST productions, I'm still in awe that this is a 17 year old pumping out these tunes... one more year and he'll be legal... just screwing with you.

As much as i hate to say it, Nina Las Vegas can DJ - Jungle Jim

So I wanted to start off my 2 week absence by posting one of my own tunes, a remix of Eminem's They Way I Am. I've always been a fan of Stevie Minks Purple Pills remix, however the more i learn the art of producing, the more I've realised the lack of production value in the song. I wanted to make a tune that wasn't driven 90% by the lyrics, but rather the production. Who knows if I have or not! But here it is:

Eminem - The Way I Am (Jungle Jim remix)

Also Free to download from my soundcloud page :)

Next up is an absolute banger from my new favourite local artist Reece Low. Move over JDG (especially seeing as the wanker won't reply to my emails!). His remix of Zoolanda's Heave turns an already great song into an international hit. The driving bassline on the drop is just my style of dirty club banger. You can check out Reece Low's soundcloud here.

Zoolanda - Heave (Reece Low Remix)

For my last tune I am going outside Melbourne to the UK, with a song by the 'Puppet On Crack.' 'The Puppet Theme' has quite a seedy, creepy kind of sound to it which i think just works so well with the artist as a whole. I can picture some creepy Puppet in a horror film, stalking and threatening someone to this melody. Great tune.

Much Ado about Power? - Horse

I made a new set this morning, shortening it to use up my remaining 33 free minutes on Soundcloud (el cheapo). I wanted to put in some of the harder tracks I've been digging lately and if a set opens with Figure, its gonna kick people square in the teeth. Also wanted to mix up genres a bit to see what techniques could be used when the tracks couldn't be physically beat matched.

Tracklist on Soundcloud

I've been a fan of Ado since his hearing his mix of Kissy Sell outs 'Wild in the Warehouse' and he consistently delivers banging tracks. Also had a slight love affair with his Articles remix from Clouds, as heard at the beginning of my Xmas set. I really like this track because its non-stop action with its relentless bassline. The acid sounds coming through along with some tech funk influences means it just keeps rollin'

The next track is a free gem comes from the bossdog at 'Sweat it out' Ajax. The classic house tune rolls off the decks beautifully for such events as Festivival and doesn't stop cruising nor bopping. Thanks Ajax

Why is it tomorrow this morning? - Esbii

So you just walked out of a club and this one tune you heard an hour or two ago that made you go off while in there is going in a repeat of what you can remember of what it was. Sure it's great you have just discovered something new to you that you love, but the problem is you can't get more of it unless you hear it again.

This has been a dilemma for me many a many a many of many a many among many times. Though there is no quick sudden answer that can be given by my humble self as a solution to the problem, but one way where you may encounter this track again is listening to sets/mixtapes by DJ's that are relevant to your interest. Jochen Miller's podcasts have been quite successful in my search for music and has also lead me to find other great trance artists since paying more closer to the genre last year.

Besides the initial point I raised earlier stating a massive problem, if following this route and listening to music similar to what you want to find, you can find many great new artists and tracks to sample and perhaps turn to love, no?

In any case, if you have a look at a lot of my previous posts, you will see such sentences like "So I found this track on so-and-so's set".

Fabio XB & Ronnie Play - MooZik (Dave Schiemann Remix)

I posted this remix of Moozik this week not only because it has been played over and over and over again in my car; not particularly because I liked the original, because I have not heard the original, nor is it because I am a fan of any that were involved in this track, because none of those names were known to me, but because it was really out of the off chance I discovered it. I found this track from Richard Durand's High end Trance mix (Intense set btw) and glad there was a way I could back track to find out it's name rather than cold when first heard!

Anyway, the track starts off percussion like sounds that instantly flash sound memories of the infamous Melbourne nightclub, Q Bar. I have never ever heard such sounds of that era or Q Bar itself been used in trance, it was that classy light tone that house bring infused with trance that really has captivated this track for me and I definetly implore everyone from all respected preference of EDM to give this track a try!

Hell, this track was so good and I couldn't find it on youtube that I uploaded it myself

Till next time,

Spotlight on Feadz - MasterSys

It's been a weak and whack week beforehand, being trapped in home for a long period gives your sanity an odd play around, but what a better way to ease those depressing moments with some tunes. Throughout last week I've been playing a particullar artist on repeat, the man known as Feadz ( Ed Banger ).

Feadz is quite the talented one, his unique blends of genre mashing from the likes of Hip-Hop, Electro and Acid House is a breath of fresh air for the label, from which I find has been dwindling over time ( In comparison to its " Glory Days " from 06 - 08 ) but Feadz continues to keep doing his own thing.

In 2010, he released one of my favourite EP's from the label, the underrated EP that goes by the name T.U.F.F ( The Unfinished Feadz Fairytale ). After being sucked in from one of the most awesome EP promo videos I've seen ( NSFW ), It was an instant purchase on day one.

Feadz_"Tuff"(video teaser) from L'Enregistreur on Vimeo.

I repeated the track " Four Sight " heavily, I just love that vibe the track gives, a slick, engaging and deep track that sucked me right in, I even went ahead and uploaded the track on Youtube for fans to enjoy. The EP also includes a ridiculous and unique banger known as " Dial a tool " ( Sydney lads Light Year did an impressive remix of the track later on ) and a bass heavy Electro track called " We got them ".

In 2012, Feadz still continues to push his vision in the game known as Music, with an EP coming out with fellow artist Kito titled Electric Empire ( Sporting some impressive artwork from the Ed Banger crew, as usual ), with a guest appearence by Feadz's ex-squeeze Uffie. I'm really digging the 2nd track in the preview, a bass heavy gospel like sound, an intense pick up and some awesome vocal sampling is going to a killer on the dancefloor with the right set of ears. Electric Empire is set to be release by the end of this month.

Thursday 15 March 2012

Moombah-wah? - Horse

Although I've never been much a fan of the Moombahton genre, the latest release from Vato Gonzalez is one I found rather enjoyable. Generally I find moombahton struggles to keep the energy flowing through its tracks, and quickly becomes quite stagnant. Dillon Francis is an artist I've followed in the genre as he keeps it pumping despite the slower beat, namely 110 bpm. 'The Moombahstard' builds with a delightful trumpet melody and keeps moving with a deep drawn out bass and intertwines the classic sounding brass elements.

This next track stems from a collaboration between Datsik and Kill the Noise.'Lightspeed' gets broken up with 'new dubstep' ripping synthesizer sounds which are normally just a waste of space and, in my opinion, aren't really music, but work well with this track. Its great to see with this song that you can clearly identify which elements are inspired by each of the artists, enjoyable to see their poetic license coming through and sticking to the type of sounds they are known for and produce.

'Optic' comes from a new EP from Turbo Records outfit Clouds. The first track I heard of theirs was their remix of Proxys' '8000' early last year. Esbii and I joked that it just tried to be like Tiga's Mind Dimension, but over the last year they have stuck with a heavy sound and I am yet to hear a bad track from them. Optic, for all intensive purposes, should be pumped loud and proud to deliver the full deep techno sounds.

Until next week buster brown, I'm out

Thursday 8 March 2012

Was going to take it easy this weekend, but decided to have a quiet night out and how the hell did i end up here at this time? - Esbii

Like I mentioned in my previous entry, I had my very own time behind 3D Nightclub's decks on Friday night and it certainly went very well. Now when I say well, I mean that I didn't screw up. I'd just like to take this moment to point out to you all that DJ'ing isn't entirely just get one song to stop then cut it into another song while wearing headphones in the process, it's a whole lot more than that..

The blood, sweat and effort that passionate DJ's can put behind one set is something that should be respected as an art. I say passionate DJ's because there are those ones out there who are simply fame seekers/cool kid wanting status cunts/club name dropping whores/beatmatchless skilled jockeys/pre recorded set players/"my set tonight is whatever beatport.com has on their top 20"/ endrant .

From hand picking tunes from their own collections and endeavors for good music to practicing all their techniques on the decks just to make sure it's all going to go the way they want it, ensuring all the tracks and their order have a good flow so the crowd doesn't start stop and finally, praying to god they don't accidentally search for the next track on the CDJ that the current playing track is using (it's happened to me in my practice time).

Anyway, this week's edition will be a couple of tracks that I chose to play for my night!

Sam Punk - Out Of Hell

Discovered this track on Josh Lang's K405 guestmix awhile back and was very surprised to find out it was made only in 2009 as I swear I heard it way long before that year. Hard trance meets hard tech is the perfect way to describe it in my opinion, that dark ripping melody is definitely one that will get stuck on repeat in your mind for weeks!

Kidd Kaos and Tone - Closer (Drum Disaster's Rough Edge Edit)

So much justice done to an already dance floor breaking tune in this edit by this South African artist. I felt this tune isn't the most recognized track going around at the moment, but it needs more attention! I'd like to point out that DD claims himself to be a "Industrial Hardcore DJ/Producer", but this little gem of his can belong in any hardstyle set of mine. Scaling in at 155bpm and packing the hardest punch at 0:28 seconds, just pure hecticness oozes from this!

Before leaving, I'd just like to say my above rant is purely opinionated from me, I'm know I'm not the greatest DJ in the world nor the most famous or recognized, but I like to think my passion and enjoyment as one does equal the big names.

Also, another thing, "Out of Hell" was my first track in my set and Drum Disaster's edit of "Closer" was my last track, you can tell the amount of difference in speed of BPM between them. This what I was talking about when I meant flow, as the one I wanted to give to my crowd was a progression of starting at the slowest to building them up to the fullest from start to finish; there are many other ways flow can be delivered by a DJ, not one is right, not one is wrong, but just don't screw up.

Welcome to Miami...Noize - MasterSys

The time has come again, after 2 great compilations known as Miami Noize, Boys Noize Records is set to release its 3rd compilation, Miami Noize 3.

My love for Boys Noize Records is at a scary rate, It is my definitive label that I follow immensely, and in my opinion is one of the best labels to follow today. The amount of diversity and genre pushing is just great to see, and they're bound to push the limits again with Miami Noize 3.

Alex Rihda has compiled a great list of artists for this new compilation, from popular acts such as Bart B More, Felix Cartel and the legendary group known as Digitalism. Along with label buddies such as Djedjotronic, Strip Steve, SCNTST, Jan Driver, Shadow Dancer, Audionite, fresh newcomers BS1 and a mysterious producer known as ELAX ( rumours that this may be Alex Rihdas alter ego ). This is set to blow the roof off again just like the previous compilations beforehand ( highly reccomend checking them out ).

I'll let the previews speak for themselves, Miami Noize 3 is set to be released digitally across various distributors such as Beatport and iTunes on the 12th of March.

Hopefully this will be the end of my Boys Noize Records posting fanboyism ( I doubt it though ), but only time will tell.

MasterSys.

Off To The Zoo! - Jungle Jim

Starting things off this week with a tune released less than a day ago by one of my favourites, JDG. The drop of 'Snap' is filthy, dark and it speaks for itself.

JDG - Snap (Original Mix) [AFTRDRK Music]

JDG's Soundcloud Account

The next 2 tunes are from an artist named Zoolanda. Only 22 years old, he has started making tunes that arn't just good melbourne tunes, they have the potential to be international hits. 'No Milk' in particular is a well constructed, very catchy tune and is available to download from his soundcloud account.

Bring Back Summer- Horse

Following the thoughts of Mastersys' last post, I've made a mix to say goodbye to Summer. It was an enjoyable 3 months and will welcome it again come the end of the year. I really enjoyed making this set, with some great tracks from some of my favourite artists, check it out.

Tracklist available at http://soundcloud.com/horsegbi/horse-bring-back-summer

Trumpdisco released the OV Shark EP about a month ago on 'Sweat it out'. This Melbourne duo seems to be flourishing overseas and bringing out some massive originals and remixes for acts like Yolanda Be Cool, Adrian Lux and Haezer. The track 'Cut & Paste' feat Airwolf is one I could listen too all day, everyday. A hustling, solid bassline backed by some cheeky female vocals makes it such a free flowing track. It almost reminds me of Solid Grooves (aka Switch) 'Sick Na Good' released in '06 for its jackin' style and booming drumline. 'Do you want more of what you came for' is another huge raw track definitely worth checking out.

Next track is Volt by Sound of Stereo, I really enjoy this track as it takes me back to Boys Noizes' 2007 debut album Oi Oi Oi. If you didn't already know, Boys Noize is King, and this track seems to again bring fourth the use of original and analogue synth sounds. Their are too many tracks around using synthesized sounds as almost filler in tracks, rather than settling on a roughish sounding, at times distorted, full length club track.

This last track just wants me wanna jump round like a monkey, which is certainly a good thing. Botneks remix of Tocadisco's Bat3ria brings a high energy and bouncy touch. Generally driven by a solid drumline, the track breaks down into a dubish beat, for which im not too much of a fan. It does give the track a chance to build and drop again though, and bring back the boogey.

Trance Today: Similar + Different from Trance Yesterday - Esbii

So after playing a very recent produced track from a very well known trance group to Harley/MasterSys the other day, he raised an extremely good point to me that has always been in front of me, but never manage to set it self in stone within my head; that being "Trance used to solely rely on it's melody, it would drop, be epic, then add a bass line and that's the track. From what it seems from this track, trance is going other places, not just making or breaking it with a good melody" . You may remember me posting Lange - This Is New York (vs. Gareth Emery) (Heatbeat Remix) and mentioning that merged the sounds of old melodies but with modern techy sounding basslines that differ a lot from the melody. That is trance today (imo).

Cosmic Gate - The Theme

Previously mentioned/talked about track was Cosmic Gate - The Theme. Wow, what can I say about these guys? Since 1999, they were big in the name of the harder edge of trance with "The Drums" and their most well known track "Exploration of Space". Both tracks I used to hear played week after week many years even after their initial releases and still today, those two classic tracks are still getting recognition within the newer generation.

Anyway, heard this particular track many times while out before finding it on Jochen Miller's "Stay Connected" monthly podcast and to be quite honest, a little suprised that this is a Cosmic Gate production. Lately imo, I find their work to be more aimed for a progressive/vocal trance audience rather than what they were first known for (I'm aware many artists change direction/style every now and again, don't hate)and to hear classic epic melodies created by them again did indeed make me keen for their show in Melbourne @ Festival Hall in April.

(P.s would also just like to add Knife Party had this in their essential mix set a month back lololololol)

But yeah, that wraps up this week, just like to add I got a set @ 3D Nighclub this friday and will mix up a storm of hard dance and hardstyle ;)

Goodbye Summer - MasterSys.

Monday... ohh Monday that day has come, Monday, the asshole day out of the weekly crew, the day that keeps hanging around even though you don't want it too and the ultimate buzzkill of the weekend. To top off this momentus Monday we've been slapped with rain all day, yet again that 4 Seasonal change is hitting Melbourne in full effect during the last days of summer.

Summer 2012 returned to that form not seen from 2011's rendition, we were blessed by actual Beach days that didn't last for a day or so, Melbourne Heart giving it to its older stuck up brother Melbourne Victory in the derby and yet another round of that " Festival Season " ( overpriced cash grab ) that pops up during this time. And what a way to send off 2012's summer with a few releases that have come in during the last month.

First off we've got a release by the insanely underrated Italian maestro NT89 ( Fools Gold & Turbo ) with new his EP " Voices " ( Out now on iTunes and Beatport )

NT89 has been producing nothing but quality over the years, gaining momentum with support from big names such as Tiga, Boys Noize & A-Trak as well as touring worldwide ( I missed his gig at Roxanne Parlour last year, will not make the mistake the next time he drops by ). I just don't get how such a producer isn't getting the recognition that his tracks show and the Voices EP explains this with grace, from the absolute stomper that is "Decoder" and the crazy/eerie/Gesafflestein like voice samples that is on "Hot Signal", accompanied by a slick kickbeat.

And to top this off, the Maestro himself released a very awesome mixtape to coincide with the release of Voices.

Another release that landed in February comes from a favourite new artist of mine, Maelstrom. After having a solid debut year in 2011 with releases on labels such as BNR Trax and Dirtybird, the young Frenchman is already making waves in the scene, and is bound to turn those waves into a tsunami-like state with his new EP release "USSR" ( Out now on Beatport ) on the brilliance of a label known as Sound Pelligrino.

"USSR" is a great example of the recent Old School revival that's been happening recently, the use of 80's samples, sythnthesizers and drum machines mixed in with that modern touch to keep it fresh. I'm a big fan of this movement at the moment, from my years of listening to old Acid House and Techno, its just neat to see Artists giving a nod to that era.

The track "USSR" manages to capture that classic Acid sound with the trademark Handclap samples that ran wild throughout the 80's with a tinge of soul on the side. " House " captures so much of that Detroit sound that dominated the House scene in the Late 80's with a touch of Maelstrom's excellent producing skills.

Along with another signature " That sounds like Maelstrom " track and some great remixes, USSR is definately an EP worth buying.

I leave now with a truly well done remix conceived by BNR's "Kid" SCNTST, remixing Das Glow's track Concrete that has also just come out recently on the Marble label. It just baffles me at how good this kid really is, at 17 years of age, and with a massive library of his own unreleased tunes he has a really really bright future ahead of him.

So long for now, I look forward to another Monday and Goodbye Summer! I'll be waiting with open arms next time you visit.

Harder and harder - Jungle Jim

First up this week is a tune by a local producer I recently discovered , Daniel Turner. I was immidiately struck by his style of music making. Deep heavy basslines, dark melodies, hard hitting beats.

'Double Black' definately comes under the categories listed above; heavy beat with a slightly off pitch melody that packs a punch.

Daniel Turner - Double Black (Original Mix)

Another tune of his that has caught my attention is his remix of Holly-J's Bubbah. Another deep, powerful tune that has a style of it's own.

Check out all of Daniel Turners tunes, here.

The 2nd tune I am putting up this week is from a producer who I used to DJ for at Code Red (Platform 1), Hands High. While im not a big fan of the name, his remix of Shake Baby Shake by Drop The Lime is a very cool tune. The rolling melody has a cheeky vibe to it and I think if he can keep making tunes like this, he will do very well as a producer. Released through One Love records 2 months ago it is available to pick up from Beatport.

Drop The Lime - Shake Baby Shake (Hands High Remix)

To check out Hands Highs tunes, click here.

The last tune I will post is from another local artist, Petrou. 'Qua' is a tune that blew me away when i first heard it. This minimal tune works so well with the lyrics and melody as they both complement each other effortlessly.

With a similar style to Daniel Turner's dark bass-heavy beats, you dont have to look far to find local talent that is up there with the best. 'Qua' is avaiable from Beatport.

Freakin' Weekend - Horse

Been a long and painful week, but lets move on to the weekend and play music non-stop, preferably with beer in hand.

Although these guys seem to release a new track what seems like almost weekly, This one stands out from the others. Following up from the tracks 'Rattle' and 'Mode' comes L'amour. Using samples from Daft Punks Robot Rock while building up before cutting into a tasty rolling beat creates a great dancefloor track. Rattle and Mode are very enjoyable tracks, but once spun by every jock around town and heard 4-5 times on a night out- its not too long before they lose their lustre.

Photobucket

This track comes out of Dim mak from Felix Cartel. This track combines a soothing melody with a, what can be described as, jittery bassline. His last track 'Don't Turn on the Light' was a favourite of mine getting plenty of play time on the decks.

Also check out the Etienne De Crecy remix for a bit of grunge complementing the original track. The Pierce Fulton remix goes a bit underground, but still delivers the element of suprise on the drop.

A good night to go out is when it's a good night to wear shorts - Esbii

Only once in a blue moon do you ever see an artist bring a complete revolution to his/her's respective genre; in my opinion for hard dance, that artist is Kidd Kaos. in the last blue moon. Even though I saw him play along side Alex Kidd at Kiddfectious Melbourne 2010, I'm just keen to see him play this friday night equal to the first time around.

Been taken under the wing of the great Alex Kidd and working with other greats in hard dance such as Phil York, Organ Donors and Scot Project, he was awarded "Best New Artist" at the Hard Dance Awards 2009 and was also given the right to set his name as a legend across all dance music by doing a set for the internationally recognized BBC Essential mix radio show. His own record label, K405 Records, is one of the biggest labels out there for quality hard dance tunes and all artists signed are the ones who do not disappoint.

Amber D - Amber's Theme (Alex Kidd vs. Kidd Kaos Remix)

It took longer than writing this post itself to decide which Kidd Kaos track I would make the "one to post about". There were many other choices that would are post-about-worthy ( Devestating , I Am Digital and Closer ), but this remix of Amber's Theme in particular captivates my point on how a "revolution" happened with Kidd Kaos. Hard, clean and loud bass, fresh sawtooth like sounds and a unique track structure just bring pleasure to ears. Some may say this track has been overplayed, but I, for one, still go ape shit when I hear it out.

Hope the weekend treats you as well as mine

Melbourne Blogging - Jungle Jim

First up are a couple of tunes from JDG(Melb) & Jayy Fresh(US). The first song is called 'Make Some Noise,' which will be released through Club Cartel Records on the 27th of Feb. This tune delivers a high energy Dutch House sound, in which the synth line rolls together so smoothly with the vocal sample. I'm trying to find another word to describe the song without saying 'boppy,' but it does have that kind of fun, boppy feel to the beat. I will definately buy this tune when it's released on the 27th.

The 2nd tune is called 'Check My Swagger' (also being released on the 27th). No doubt the song title has had influence from the US, as no-one in melbourne who isn't a rapper would call their song 'Check My Swagger.'
Anyway, to the song. The bassline that hits on the drop is the type of full-sounding bassline that I love. While it is a bassline, it does give a balance of frequencys as there is a lot of high range in it as well, giving a really thick, full sound, adding a lot of impact on the drop. The only problem with that type of bassline is it's difficult to add anything after that, that doesnt clash with the sound, as there is no frequency range to work with. JDG does this by shifting the bassline up an octave so the song doesn't go stale and keeps moving forward. Great tune from JDG & Jayy Fresh that continues to raise the profile of house music in Melbourne.

JDG & Jayy Fresh - Make Some Noise

JDG & JayyFresh - Check My Swagger

You can check out all of JDG's tunes, here.
And Jayy Fresh's, here.

The 3rd song I'm posting about is a Slice N Dice tune. Usually I wouldn't put a Slice N Dice tune up as I think as artists they have achieved double the fame of some other local melbourne artists with about half the talent. They have achieved a big following through gimmicking themselves by wearing masks and handing out free shit at gigs while their music, on the other hand, lacks detail and smacks of half-heartedness. The sounds they use are basic and I feel, while they have improved, they lack the music ability to really make it big. HOWEVER, this tune caught my attention, not because they have become more talented over night, but because if I was out and heard this tune, I would loose my shit to the drop. Very hard hitting tune.

Slice N Dice - Damn (Original Mix)

Highway Bloggery- Horse

Freshly signed to Owsla record label Nick Thayer comes out with a very fresh ep, Skrillex, founder of the label, discovered his talent at "this crazy club in Melbourne" known as Revolver while touring as part of Creamfields 2011 festivities (http://soundcloud.com/austinkramer/skrillex-owsla-crew-on-nick). I've got a lot of respect for Nick, not only for his impressive production value and innovative tunes, but also in years past seeing him spin at Revolver and seamlessly mixing genres from moombahton to Dnb, some electro then some hip hop...absolute maestro. Stand-outs are his own remix of Like Boom- creating a funky banger as well as Totalitaria having some well constructed sounds coming at you.

Swede Tony Senghore is another producer always seems to astound me, he puts sounds where there shouldnt be sounds and makes some truly experimental electro tunage. Been liking this track alot recently even though its a couple of years old

crazy confusion?

I've been ready for the weekend since Monday - Esbii

So this coming Saturday night I'm heading to DNA @ Inflation to check out Melbourne's finest hardstyle/hard dance producers showcase their talent and indeed I am keen for what should be a dance floor breaking night!

One artist that will be playing on the night that I'm very excited to see play is K*N*G/King. His music and name is widely known and well respect in the Melbourne rave scene but it doesn't stop just there as his work has also been internationally supported by big names such as Kidd Kaos and Swankie & Kashi. It was 2009 when I first heard "Hey Hey" , I just couldn't get enough of that harsh underground raw scratch sound as well as that thumping reverse bass (this track is also responsible for my love of reverse bass hardstyle) and increased my interest of any event that had him included in the line up.

Jibberish - K*N*G

"Jibberish" earned a solid top 20 spot on the trackitdown.net charts within a month and also a place in my heart within seconds of hearing it. I feel this track offers so much variety in it's structure; just so many different levels of hard and god damn does that change up at 2:34 just get you stomping the floor even more so.

Cirez D - On Off (Sebastien Leger Remix)

Cirez D aka Eric Prydz's original mix of this track had a lot of class, energy and a fresh sound; Sebastien Leger takes those points, wrestles with it in mud and turns it in complete dirty filth. I was convinced after hearing the original close to 2 years ago, no remix could do any justice to what justice the original is, but damn was I wrong when I found this remix a month ago and got a hold of that hard hitting bassline.

Anyway, that's this week wrapped up! Please keep checking in for more fresh tunes posted up by us!

Saturday 11 February 2012

Sweet Sunday Hangover - Jungle Jim

This first track up is one from my favourite local DJ, Mickey Nox. Mickey has a distinct sound to his music, you can hear one of his tunes out without knowing it and be able to tell it's one of his. What occasionally frustrates me about his music is also what is so appealing about it. He makes raw music. While his structuring doesn't follow the standard house guidlines it gives his hard hitting, bass heavy drops all the more impact. His music represents who he is as an artist. An artist who doesnt give a shit and just wants to make you stomp your feet and bang your head against the wall.

He has also made this song downloadable from his soundcloud account!

Mickey Nox - We Should Of Had Shotguns

Next up is another tune made in Melbourne by Scotty Lee & Nick B. It has that distinctive melbourne house sound and follows the common method of remixing hip hop tunes. The song is very well put together and has an incredibly smooth sound to it.

Scotty Lee is a relatively new-comer to the melbourne house scene, being taught at Van-G's Music Production and Tuition Academy.

Xzibit - Concentrate (Scotty Lee & Nick B Remix)

To round things off I have one last tune for you, keeping it local with an old favourite, T-Rek.

Using his talent for the guitar he has moulded rock and house once again into a "Club Rock" tune, 'New Strange'. After his smash hit 'Out My Bitch' a few years ago T-Rek hasn't really made waves since then. He has tried some alternate genres of music, but it's good to see him back where he belongs! Rocking out clubs.

T-Rek - New Strange

Show me the music- Horse

Hey guys, end of the week means some more Horse...get it in you!

This is a new EP from Modek of Belgium released on lectroluv records. Both Willow and Dust deliver a hard hitting beat backed by a distinctive Modek sound convulsing for a slice of techno genius.
Modek and Ado are playing a gig in Sydney on the 11th February with nothing going on in Melbourne, very dissapointed to miss out on these acts. But its certainly not the first time this has happened. Just in recent months acts such as Peacetreaty, Mr Skeleton, Porter Robinson and Lucky Date have toured other capital cities but no love for Melbourne. Leaves electronic music loving Melbournites wondering what is going on? Why can't we see such elite acts? Fellow GBI DJ Mastersys even suggested a conspiracy. For now ill put it down to some high-end BS politics, but we in Melbourne should be able to see great touring acts more often rather than just when a festival rolls into town.

Photobucket

I've been a fan of this guy since I heard his Avicci- Levels remix,
and despite hearing close to 2 million other remixes, his takes the cake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9Z5fH0M0mo).
He has only just turned 21 as of a few days ago and has released this big room bootleg for free download.
Large things to come...

Aussie act Light Year have released a new EP also. Different from their previous high energy releases yet delivers a delicious, groovy sound. Had the pleasure of seeing them supporting Danger last year where the crowd went so off chops their were even patrons head-butting each other...crazyness... their promo video highlights some great 90s ravers aswell :)

Who likes spending the night out sitting down anyway? - Esbii

Hey guys, Esbii here to share you some of the tracks that have been dominating my playlist in the last week!

Lange - This Is New York (vs. Gareth Emery) (Heatbeat Remix)

Heatbeat gives us this brilliant trance banger that merges the current and past sounds of trance. From the very start, this track does not mess around when it comes to that heavy techy bass and then one of the greatest uses of a classic trance sound heard @ 3:34 that will put the biggest smile on your face ;)

Sied van Riel ft Fenja - The Game (Original Mix)

I, for one, am a huge fan of Sied van Riel's work and can't absolutely wait to see him at Creamfields later this year in March (the trance shed will go completely off with that line up omfg ^^). I found this track on his podcast "Rielism 068" while I was allowed to play my own music at work through the speakers; @ 1:57 when the piano breakdown is dropped, I stopped what I was doing and paid attention so I could appreciate what art I felt it was and it was then followed by beautiful brain tingling vocals from Fenja that really do put you in that state of trance (lololol ASOT ;) ). Despite so far how I have described this track, by no means at all is this a slow track, still heaps of jumping-up-and-down energy behind it!

Internet Friends - Knife Party

Knife Party has been described to me as "dubstep sounds at house speeds"; that was definitely not the reason why I decided to sample some of there work, it was when Horse gave me his opinion of them as "they are hectic" (GBI Rule #231 - Always trust Nic's decision when it comes to good tunes). I'll admit this track has had good reception and has certainly established itself already, but it was only just recently I discovered it and felt it was neccessary to share to those who have not yet enjoyed this floor smacking tune.

That wraps up this week, will let you all know what I've been playing next Wednesday and take care!

It's all about the Trax - MasterSys

A new release has landed from Alex Rihda's ( Boys Noize ) sub label, BNR Trax as of yesterday. The 11th release features tracks 3 tracks from fellow BNR ( Boys Noize Records ) crew member, Djedjotronic.

Walk with Me

Flange

Get it at Beatport

Following the release, BNR has decided to release a compilation of tracks from the last 10 Trax releases ( out Feb 20th ), featuring a great selection from the library.

Pre-Order/Preview

What I find so great about this sub label ( and the main label aswell ) is its willingness to allow the artists to experiment, to try out new sounds, and to also revive classic sounds such as late 80's Acid or Techno. There's no pressure on the artists to release another " safe generic banger ", this is creative freedom at its best.

Be on the lookout for BNR's latest release by Handbraeks ( Boys Noize and Ed Banger's own Mr Oizo ) EP "#1" and the upcoming album Miami Noize 3, which features all new tracks from the BNR crew and a few special guests.

New Releases - Jungle Jim

First up is a high-energy tune released this month from the Mightyfools. As usual they bring fresh sounds and massive drops to their beats and they haven't dissapointed here.

The reason I like this tune so much is it is the dubstep sound of old. No female lyrics, no piling the high range and taking the wobble out. This song was only released a day ago, but it brings the sounds that made dubstep unique.

And to finish off a local tune by Juicy which I am a big fan of. It remixes a classic and drives hard with the bassline.

Thought I would kick things off with some of the best Melbourne House tunes from the last year or so.
